This year, I am currently taking biology as a freshman. My teachers are Mr. Colarusso and Mr. Dolan. I have had Mr. Colarusso previously as a 7th grader. I really enjoy him as my teacher. He's very nice and so helpful when you are in need of extra help. I have not had Mr. Dolan, but from what I've noticed, he seems very nice and happy to be a teacher. When I first started the class, I expected to learn important things about the body. For instance, the body systems and how we stay alive.
Although my class has only begun, I've learned a bit of so far. I learned about the scientific method and how it helps many scientists find out new information. The method proves that scientists truly go through a lot of work to find new medicines, cures, and inventions. It helps us see a bit of what scientists do as their jobs and how they benefit people everywhere. We also touched upon experiments and how they help us as well. We talked about the variables and the things that go into preparing experiments. I really like this class, and I can't wait to learn more in it.
Mr. Colarusso's grading policy is the usual. Tests are 30% of your grade with a 100-point scale. Quizzes are 10% with them being 5 to 10 short answer questions. They might be announced or unannounced, but only 10 best grades will be used. Homework and classwork are also 10%. Everyone begins with a 100, but each zero you receive, 5 points are deducted. Finally, informal assessment are also 10%. These grades include labs and projects similar. This class includes a lot of group work and discussion which I enjoy. I like knowing what the other students' perspectives are. I enjoy the interaction he has with us and how he explains the topics to us well.
Technology is used in our class daily. Everyday, he would teach the lessons on a smart board connected to his laptop. He would use the power points, but also write the important notes on the board. Alongside with the power points, he would find online demonstrations to match the lesson. I really enjoy this class and I like the subject. He is a great teacher and he makes the material easy to grasp.
